Our Leadership Is a Gift as We Begin 2016

I am reminded that our life is a gift…and that life is short. So how do we live meaningful lives, and as the person we are meant to be?

We are certainly not here primarily to chase money.

Are we not here to love, to care about and to serve others?

Just as our life is a gift, so too is our leadership. Leadership is not merely a title as everyone can be a leader, regardless of their position. Leadership is how we help people feel about themselves. Leadership is about instilling confidence in our team and helping them to work as a cohesive and engaged team.

We cannot take our effectiveness for granted as leadership is a gift that must continually be developed and cultivated. We, as well as our teams, must strive for continuous improvement. It is important for us to assess how we are being received by others.

Leadership includes encouraging, mentoring and coaching our people. It’s about asking for our team members’ ideas and letting them know they are important.

Let’s strive to make our gift of leadership truly meaningful by genuinely caring about our team members and by helping them to learn, grow and succeed.

And remember, we can all, each and every one of us, be leaders from whatever our position as leadership is also about our ability to influence others.

In addition to our financial goals, which are certainly important, let us also make developing and inspiring our team members a key goal and a top priority.

So here’s to 2016, where we strive to continue to grow in our effectiveness as leaders, making a huge difference for the people of our companies.
