A Role Model of a Truly Great Leader: A “Common Sense” Leader

I received such positive feedback from my post last week, Common Sense Leadership, that I'd like to continue the theme this week, and I have the perfect opportunity. I was privileged as a friend, at my request, shared his personal management review with me.

I read it, reread it, and reread it again. It is so fitting, as he is a truly a wonderful, down to earth, no personal agenda leader. He is motivated by doing great work for clients and helping his law firm's people learn, grow and succeed.

Here are direct comments from the review. I share them as they inspired me and I think they may inspire you as well. More about that later.

  • "Exceptionally knowledgeable"
  • "Sincere, supportive and trusts people"
  • "Clear and direct communications"
  • "Runs meetings effectively"
  • “Very responsive and helpful"
  • "Reliable in attending meetings"
  • "A rare breed – a natural leader, yet one with both strength and grace"
  • "Always available to help"
  • "Forthright, makes prompt and fair decisions"
  • "Is incredibly encouraging and supportive"
  • "Well respected by everyone"
  • "Listens to everyone's ideas"
  • "Timely, organized"
  • "Easy to contact, quick to respond"
  • "Does not shirk the tough situations and decisions"
  • "Communications are always respectful"
  • "Extremely hard working"
  • "Loyal to his constituents, works diligently to help team members succeed, he is all about the team"
  • "He is a role model for everyone, at all levels"

This final comment sums him up: "His strength of character is outstanding, and that really forms the foundation for all his very excellent attributes."

He is the leader of a major portion of the firm's business and one of the few at the highest level of the firm. Not many people at such a high level would receive such universal praise and respect from colleagues.

I wanted to write this as I hope we will all reread the specific feedback about his leadership and think about it, truly think about it. Isn't it "common sense leadership"? Cannot all of us be guided by these comments?

It's about being a good person and doing the right things.

My invitation: copy the comments, as I have, highlight them, and let them guide our everyday leadership. We all will do an even better job of helping others!
